Amazing! i'd love to hear more about this occasion, Grant! Especially, why you were in Moscow that day. Business? It was still under Soviet rule, Breshnev died in 1982. Looks as though you had freedom to roam about a bit and not straightjacketed by Secret Service "Officials". Even to take photos! "Comrade Cullen, you shouldn't have done that but as you are a citizen of The country of great poet Po6epta 6ephca, "Rabbie Burns", we'll overlook this transgression and what would have been a 6 month retribution course in our Lubyanka Education Centre!"

Was on a three week holiday in Russia Alasdair, with two friends. We stayed a week in Moscow, a week in Yalta on the Crimea and a week in Leningrad. We did play a bit `cat and mouse` with the security services...even getting to  a party with some young Russians  miles from the city centre in Leningrad. They had a record player...but only one record...Donny Osmond. Organised by Sovscot Tours of Glasgow. This trip gave me confidence to travel abroad later (mostly on business) to 35 different countries - some on many repeated occasions. And yes it was still under Soviet rule - Leonid Brezhnev
