I am researching a potential book(let) for the period above. I enjoy doing the research, but it is a slow business. There are 38 years, I have 7 years researched to a reasonable standard, so only 31 years to go. The book(let) will not be ready anytime soon. One reason for mentioning this is that I keep thinking about a conversation I had in the pub after a Rovers game, it was a while ago, about a Rovers supporter thinking about writing a book. If there is anyone else thinking about writing a book on the Rovers, get in touch. No point in the same work getting done twice over. This is an absolute long shot. 1920 was Rovers Cup Final appearance. There are adverts in the papers of the time announcing a film of the Cup Final being shown in the local cinemas of the time. Has anyone got an old film reel stuck in the loft that might be this film? Handle with care, and get in touch. The obvious question is, why not 1882-2021? Well, if 1882-1920 is a bit daunting, then 1882-2021 is just too daunting! I had no idea someone had beat you to it Brian. Published privately by Rovers fan Robert Pickering in 1937. By the looks of the review on Amazon this very rare copy was picked up by Alasdair. Wonder if it was Alasdair Turnbull. www.amazon.co.uk/Albion-Rovers-Football-Club-History/dp/B015SWST34

Bucky was Alastair Turnball, he was good enough to let me photocopy it, tiny original, smaller than a Wee Red Book. Interesting, but a bit vague on a lot of issues.
Mildrover, I was desperate to prove we started in 1881, but alas, there is a report in the Coatbridge Express October 28, 1882 saying that 'recently' a meeting was held to form a football team called Albion Rovers (Coatbridge).

The obvious question is, why not 1882-2021? Well, if 1882-1920 is a bit daunting, then 1882-2021 is just too daunting! The obvious answer is you would have to admit you were wrong about Ally Graham 🤣🤣🤣 On a serious note Brian I put out an appeal on my Twitter feed @oldroverspics in a complete long shot of getting a copy of the reel from the 1920 Final. From a few of the Killie historians on twitter the first film edits of a Scottish cup final appeared on Pathe news the following year. Have you ever made enquiries to Pathe in the event they maybe have a copy.

Asked Richard McBrearty at the Scottish Football Museum what he thought the chances were of the film surviving, he had a trawl through various archives, came up with nothing. I think he mentioned Pathe, but will check that.
As for Ally Graham.....what a great player he should have been.

Ally had a very good career - a league cup winners medal to go with his ARFC league winners medal as well as his other achievements. True story about big Ally- during the 1988-89 championship season I would give wee Jimmy Lawson a hand with the kit at away games. The championship had been won the week before against Dumbarton. The following Saturday a very sporting Alloa team gave us the guard of honour at Recreation park then promptly beat us 2-0. The only player in that dressing room afterwords demanding that the club didn’t drop it’s standards was Big Ally- some might say he moaned with the arms out but do not underestimate the will to win with the big man.

Was fortunate enough to see the big man working as a coach when Kevin was in charge. A top man, and a very very good coach. I hope he pursues it in the future.
