Iam trying to find out if the Rovers were the first team to play Celtic after they won the European Cup in 1967 . My source was a guy called Mick Murphy who played with Rovers at that time . Has any one any info if this game took place or is there anyone who was actually playing in the team to confirm the validity of this story
Can`t recall it - might have been a `closed door` friendly. Rovers did enter a team in the `Combined Reserve League` for a couple of seasons inn the 60s. Rangers and Celtic fielded teams in this league usually `third` teams.
Rovers did play a friendly against Celtic before the '67-8 season. Memory is a bit hazy but I believe there was maybe one change from the Lisbon Lions line-up and Celtic won 2-1 or 3-2. The Advertiser archive will have information, I'm sure.

Done a bit of further digging and found an entry in Robin Marwicks excellent book- Boys from the Brig , that mentions a Monday night in late January 1969 when Rovers and Celtic XI fought out a 0-0 draw. Invaluable reference book for old Rovers matches
