The plan is on the go again. It would see a 2 year trial of Rangers & Celtic colt teams entering League 2. They would be a fixed squad of under 21’s with up to 2 over age players. No players would be allowed to pass between the colts & “big team” except during transfer windows.
League 2 would have anywhere between 22 and 44 games per season and the colts wouldn’t be allowed to be relegated to the Lowland league or promoted to league 1 either next placed proper team taking those places if they’re in those places.
The OF would buy 250 tickets at £10 for each away game which is the bribe element guaranteeing that a crowd of around 100 doesn’t lose them money like in the Irn Bru cup. They wouldn’t be given any share of the league cash distributed to member clubs.
Of course one of the knock on effects is that OF players wouldn’t be available to loan out for proper experience at teams such as Rovers.
11 of the 12 premiership sides and 23 of the other 30 sides must approve this for it to go ahead.
Of course after the 2 years they’d have their feet in the door, financial and promotion restrictions could be weakened and other teams could also bring in their colt sides.
Celtic would play their “home” games at Cappielow and Rangers would no doubt also nominate another ground for theirs rather than Ibrox.
In my opinion this is a crazy idea and us fans need to stand up and be counted. As individuals and as supporters’ trust members we need to make our views known.

Total nonsense idea. Means the two colt teams would not be promoted and teams finishing 3or 4th would go up. If this goes through it would truly mark the end of the lower leagues

Just because it’s the OF Colt teams, doesn’t mean to say they’ll finish 1st and 2nd, they’d still have some very tough games, i mean, Annan knocked Celtic’s colt team out the irn bru cup this season, so it’s no guarantee they’d finish 1st and 2nd

Utter garbage idea: surely clubs won't vote for this madness?!! It looks like some L2 clubs might get sucked in for the extra £10k or whatever it is from the sale of an extra 250 tickets sold.

Agree - this would be a stupid idea.

Ridiculous concept. Rangers and definitely Celtic are strong enough compared to other PL teams to play their young players in their own first team squads if good enough. Stupid idea so will probably happen.

main reason it will happen is "The OF would buy 250 tickets at £10 for each away game" cash talk I'm afraid.

I'm somewhat confused by the money side of this. They say that clubs would be £15000 better off a season for it but 250 tickets at £10 is £2500 and surely there'd be no more than 2 home games versus each of them which I make £10000 which doesn't take into account VAT which leaves £8333.33. No doubt this money would be dropped after he 2 year "experiment" is complete and they and possibly others too are installed permanently. Personally I'd like a much larger amount for selling my soul.

Yip Tee, money will cloud their judgement, a guaranteed £10-15K is something that the clubs will find hard to turn down. There is many more ways to make our league competitive, (In fact in some cases it's been exiting enough for some supporters), without bringing in the colts teams. Makes a mockery of the pyramid set up that the SPFL brought in a few years ago.
However If it's going to get voted in then why shouldn't these teams not be allowed to be promoted, if its about bringing on their development then surely getting out of the lowest leagues and playing teams in the Championship would enhance that development......no wait a minute that might mean someone else gets a guaranteed pay day cant be having that now could we!!

As a wise sage on Twitter said one of the attractions of lower league football is we don't have to put up with the OF.

Sounds like they are struggling financially - as well as on the pitch
