Respecting everyone's else's opinion regarding new manager, but not for me. I do realise we need a steady hand, and finances are low,but for me Ian Murray would have been a step forward.Maybe I'm wrong-(hopefully I will be!)-but cannot see us competing at this level,as standard has fairly went up in last few years.

Chuffed, John was a great player, has managed at various clubs, I don't follow the Juniors that closely but he has a reputation for good footballing teams, but Donald Ashwood, David Crichton can probably tell us better.
Does anyone read the programme?
By an admin fluke, the programme article dealing with my first choice forward in the series on my Dream Team was lost in the ether. So, start of next season the first programme will have the following text, happy coincidence or what?
"John Brogan joined Rovers as an 18 year old in 1972. Having to rely on Wikipedia for stats, it tells me that John played 125 times, scoring 32 goals which just does not seem enough games and, particularly, not enough goals, especially when you see his scoring rate elsewhere. All the figures in this series of articles have to be taken with a certain pinch of salt.
There was more to John that his League Cup matches against Airdrie but I know for sure they happened because I was fortunate enough to be there, so here goes.
In the 1976-77 season, Airdrie won 3-2 at Broomfield, so a stiff second leg at Cliftonhill was in store but John rose to the occasion with a hat trick in a 3-1 win and a 5-4 aggregate win. Rovers ended the Division Two season in 6th place, Airdrie ended 6th in Division One, so a great achievement over a two legged cup tie.
My personal favourite was in season 1973-74, John chipped in with a goal in a 3-0 victory, Rice and Sermanni also scored, for a real triumph at Cliftonhill. A tough game was guaranteed at Broomfield in the return, and it got worse when Jeff King was sent off in twenty minutes. The ten men worked their socks off and got a great reward with John scoring in the second half after a lung bursting run from his own half for a 4-0 aggregate. Airdrie finished the season as Champions of Division Two, Rovers finished 17th or 3rd bottom Division Two, so another great achievement.
John was transferred St Johnstone in 1977, becoming the Saints all-time top scorer from 1977-84, making 277 appearances, scoring 140 goals. In 1984, there was a cameo at Hibs, making 5 appearances, scoring one goal and an on loan spell at Ayr with 5 appearances. He joined Hamilton for 1984-87, making 95 appearances, scoring 36 goals. On to Stirling 1987-93, John was still playing well into his 30s, making 76 appearances, scoring 35 goals the last season or so as player manager.
John’s move into coaching and management has kept him busy until fairly recently. As a manager, he moved from Stirling to Arbroath, then down to the Juniors at Armadale Thistle, Blantyre Victoria, East Kilbride Thistle, Yoker Athletic, BSC Glasgow, Lanark United and, finally, Wishaw."

Sounds like a great appointment. John has achieved plenty in his managerial career to date. Highly experienced guy.

Top appointment: welcome back John Brogan. Saw him in my first season in 1976 until Fagan sold him for peanuts just before the huge cup-tie v East Fife. Good luck to him for next season.

I wasnt born until 1979 so the name as a player means nothing to me,,but get us back up and he will live long in my memory. Just told my old man the news and he seemed quite upbeat about it as he remembers him as a player.

Will of course get right behind him and desperate to be proved wrong but struggling a bit squaring off where he's at in his managerial career and task ahead at Rovers.

If the Ian Murray link was serious I’d love to have seen him as manager, but the club have made their choice and I’ll certainly get behind John. Hope everyone else does too.

To give my ignorance but I'm totally underwhelmed by the appointment.
Far too young to know him as a player (only 30) so to me it's a guy who hasn't managed a senior club since 1996.

Was not what i was expecting, a bit like a few other of the guys...underwhelmed. Would have been interesting to see who the final candidates were for the job...anyway we await and see what calibre of players come in to hopefully get us out of league 2 as fast as possible...but (not being a doom merchant just practical) ...i fear another long season ahead.

Note the meet the manager session next week - get a long and ask questions - don`t moan on here until you have heard what John has to say for himself

Read John Brogan's Wikipedia page en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Brogan_(footballer,_born_1954) Read Ian Murray's Wikipedia page en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Murray_(footballer)Think John is the right choice, used to small budgets, will have contacts in the junior game, been involved in coaching since retiring as a player almost without a break. With Ross going from St Mirren, Ian Murray will be involved in the managerial merry go round that will result. Ian might have got the Rovers gig and then walked to go elsewhere leaving us stuffed at such an important point in the season. As Grant says go Meet the Manager, unfortunately, the date is the first of a series of night shifts for me.

Brogan left wishaw in February after an apparant player revolt over training schedules
Players didn't goto him they went straight to the committee apparantly there was a mutual agreement and an amicable parting
Take from that what you will

The last three managers have been `rookies` (Ward / Young / Kerr)so going for an all round experienced guy who is unlikely to be `poached` away when, as Brian says, the managerial merry go round starts spinning, is a good move. Young got us up (and kept us up ) with an unsustainable (in the long term) budget...but...where would he have been without the experience of Sandy Clark and Billy Stark (particularly the former) on hand. Things might have been different for Kerr had he had an `old hand` in the background but we are where we are.

The Sun is today reporting that John Brogan doesn't have the correct qualifications to be manager.
The club face funding being withheld or not allowed entry to the Scottish cup
