Didn't realise that so many people cared about this, it gives me hope. Scrolled through it all and some facts:- -there are youth teams using rovers name and badge, and if they ask club will help in a small way. - club dont own the teams that's why club needs to do the trialist thing. - club have no intention of taking control of a youth/community project. -u19 manager is leaving and if someone replaces him great but if not club are not prepared to be involved. - Nobody knows when we will produce any young players, so we need to continue and probably pay over the odds for players in short contracts. Unfortunately meaning never getting a "rovers" man in the team. -There are plenty of clubs with nothing below 1st team, -two players left u19 as they couldn't get a game and then reserve manager thinks they are good enough for possibly 1st team, never ever have I saw or heard anything like that. I just thought the people of Coatbridge deserve a real community club.

The sad thing is the majority of folk in Coatbridge think their community clubs are either in the East or South side of Glasgow. That’s always going to be our problem I am a huge advocate of youth football, been involved over 20 years down here. Dumbarton has a good going youth system but binned it because of the cost, as have many other clubs. It would be great to see the Rovers have something in place where youngsters have a pathway through to the first team but realistically it will never happen.

Our Captain this season will be signing for the reserves next season (Nick Mullen) he is good enough to make his way into the 1st team. One of them made a debut for 1st as well, 2 selected last year for 1st team also, one making their debut. However, recent events have pushed me & others away. Also i know of full pathway sitting there under the community which would love nothing more than a pathway to first team and the opportunity that some of my players have had. But sadly there does not seem to be much interest from the club officials. Thank you also for wishing me good luck Sam, it could very well be a shambles at Clyde too however, and you will have enough experience to know that you never really know until you get there.

Well its a shame if recent events have made your decision for you.
Really would like to see something happening youth wise with the club, would even be up for helping out in some way with the planning etc but like Scottish Football in general it’s going to take a long time before we see the fruits of anyone’s labours.
However, and this is the main issue as Chris has mentioned. Without the big team there is no youth set up. So the main priority in the coming months is to ensure that we do not find ourselves in the same predicament as we did this past season.

I agree, the 1st team takes priority, that is the same at every club. However, there was guys within the community who have helped the club this season especially with ball boys etc, however now there is certain coaches who don't even want to do that with their teams. But there is guys there that are willing to run this as no cost to the club. But hey-ho, its all done and dusted now. I hope the club don't find themselves in that position again, however I do fear for the future of the club. But i really do hope I am wrong. As for the most part have been good to me and my team. I will always keep an eye on the Rovers results and attend the odd game when I can.

For the love of dogs put Chris out of his misery. You can achieve all just takes ambition "just ambition" ......erm. Ambition costs money. What you call lack of ambition I call a healthy scrutiny. Forgive us but we've heard it all before. Devlin compared Rovers to a chinese restaurant . All the talk is very light on substance from what I can see. You do Caldwell's bidding for him pretty well if that's any consolation. I'm my own man Bucky as you are and I think you know that.

I do agree with you that the club either adapt or die. It's a different dynamic now in L2 since Rovers were last in the league in 2015. Relegation to the the Lowland league is a real threat to all clubs so the priority must be to give the manager as much wiggle room as possible , that will mean increasing revenue and that means spreading the net wider. That will take a certain type of person. As for the youth set up. Because the league is cut throat now in doesn't lend itself to blooding youths . Was certainly the case for us last season , a relegation dogfight isn't a great way to introducing young players. We've had our fingers burnt previously when our youth system was scrapped when Jimmy Lindsay was there. From memory we seemed to get all the cast offs from Raith Rovers at that time. Again it's a wider issue for other clubs as they in tirn feed off of the cast offs from higher up the leagues. I'm not sure who are scouts are thats if we have any, Robert Watt was good at plucking some raw talent from other ranks including amatuer and dare I say it Juniors.

Did that youth set up not pull out a few decent players for us? Jordan Smith, James Mclees, Iain Diack, Martin Harty, Chris Silvestro... I’m sure there were more though.
