No disrespect to big Mick but sticking him up front isn't going to cut it. We've done that in desperation over the last three years when we've been chasing a game and it hasn't worked once; not once. It does my head right in. Ayr United away last season?

I thought that referee made some well dodgy decisions on Saturday. There was a counter attack in the 1st half I think where there were 2 players running down the left and centre (can't remember who), the Airdrie player blatantly trips the guy running through the centre and the move fizzles out. You would think that would be at least a yellow card in anyone's book except that referee who just had a word with the player. Also why the goal was disallowed beats me.
The ref also dropped his spray can and never even noticed until later when the players pointed it out to him. It wouldn't surprise me if he was sniffing that aerosol can before the match started and it went to his brain. Also the Airdrie players falling to the ground for no reason and made a quick recovery, it is just like the young guy who shouts a lot at home matches said "Oh it's Lazarus, he's come back from the dead".
Well agree with the comments that Gary Fisher should be back in the starting squad, he well made a difference.
Just to say finally what a superb atmosphere there was at the game, it makes a massive difference when there is a big crowd at the ground. I hope and I am sure that Darren and Billy will learn lessons from this match, hope so anyway.

It does my head right in. Ayr United away last season? I wasn't at that game Shakey but looking at the report on the match it looks like it was a goal following a free kick when it was 0-0 after 73 minutes. On that basis we weren't chasing almost a lost cause at the death, and putting Mick up top as some sort of cunning plan designed to bamboozle the opposition whilst safe in the knowledge that it is indeed a great plan that has served us well in the past. Even if that game was the exception that proves the rule it stands to reason that you'll have more chance scoring with a striker upfront than your centre half.

What a goal that was by Mick now that I see it again. Okay so next week we can have Mick up top, and say keeper Ross in centre of defence. If Ryan Wallace is fit-ish then he can go in goals, that'll be good enough. Fish can be a ball boy as we were seriously short of ball boys at the weekend - 1 I think. Get him behind the goal at the Coatbridge end with some crampons and a Sherpa to get up and down the hill safely. That'll give him the chance to prove his fitness with some short sprints. Piece of cake this football manager lark. m.youtube.com/watch?v=po2SY6GYJQ8

The best indication of a foul, offside, etc etc....is the protests from the players. But there was none!! Looked at the goal a few times still struggling to find fault. Good goal chopped off methinks.

Plenty of good points above about the game. Darren Young's overall record is beyond criticism but throughout his spell here we have been far too inconsistent at home. If we start next week's game with the same line-up that finished this one (except with Mick Dunlop back in defence after spending yesterday's injury time up front) we will get what we didn't get last season - a home result against Stranraer, which will keep ARFC in a solid 5th place and importantly put us 9 points clear of the automatic relegation zone. Yep, our home form has been pretty flat which is a shame as our heroics away to Airdrie, Livvy and Alloa have been undone by poor home form. Teams hate coming to Cliftonhill and are prepared for a battle. It's horses for courses in this very tight league and we need to adjust. The manager has a pretty good record and on Saturday he unfortunately got it wrong. In the past if we have had a dry spell he has dug his heels in to fan pressure- I don't expect Fisher to start against Stranraer

Watched it a few times too - think it's Stephen Boyd who is in the line of sight of the keeper and that why it's not given - but - yes - not a single Airdrie player - not even the keeper protests. The only person in Cliftonhill who saw anything wrong with the goal was the stand-side assistant - but sadly - he's the only one that matters.
