He had the badges but they expired as he was out of senior football as long

God this gives me the fear just thinking back to the Brogan era. I've no idea what his coaching was like but I'm not sure it was the badges, or lack of, that was the problem. It was the piss-poor recruitment from the less than stellar reaches of the junior game, supplemented by the weans from Alloa (one or two who turned out okay tbf; as for the rest...........). And the unbelievable arrogance and stupidity of thinking that would cut it in L2. The fact he sold this model to the recruitment panel at the time beggars belief.
Our friend Kevin was a major step up so let's hope we get a decent appointment this time around too.

Chatting to Jamie McKenzie earlier: he has thrown his hat in the ring.

According to today’s Scottish Sun, ex Aberdeen defender Zander Diamond has applied for the job. He’s currently a youth coach with Queen's Park

If the rumours are true that Mick Dunlop has thrown his hat in then he would be a great shout. I think he would need someone experienced beside him a bit like what Darren Young had with Billy stark and Sandy. If he was still willing to play and he got his brother back we’d have the best centre half pairing in the league.

Really encouraged by the level of names being linked.
Zander Diamond no managerial experience but with the level he has played at very recently would bring a level of professionalism and a contact book much like Darren Young did. I know he had to retire through injury but at 35 if he could still play a bit he'd be great at this level.
Jamie Mackenzie and Mick Dunlop are two names I'd love to see at the club full blooded committed players. I'll never forget my first 3 games of being a "full time" home and away Rovers fan im sure Jamie was sent off in two and suspended for the other. Mick is a class act too would certainly know how to sort a defence and to talk them through a game even if he wasn't able to play has played everywhere at our level so will have a great knowledge.
It will come down to money I suspect the later two will know more than Zander about the reality at the club although if im correct both actually played at times when the spending was a bit out of hand. JM certainly making all the right noises in that interview !

From Daily Record: Airdrieonians legend Jimmy Boyle is in the running to become the new manager of Monklands rivals Albion Rovers, Lanarkshire Live Sport understands.
The 53-year-old, who took charge of the Diamonds between 2010-2013, is keen to return to first team management after almost seven years and is one of the candidates being considered to replace Kevin Harper at Cliftonhill.

Please no. Would be a terrible appointment. I would hesitate buying a season ticket watching his brand of football. I think we’ll have a good choice of applicants and I’m not adverse to a younger manager with ambition who has cut his teeth at a lower level. I can see Stephen Swift putting his hat into the ring as well as McKenzie. Zander Diamond is an intriguing one but as Sam alludes to the reality of a small playing budget might hit home. We will need someone who can motivate and get the best out of what we have.

It would be insane to appoint a guy who has been out of the game for SEVEN years when TWO young hungry ex-club captains want the job.
