I'm probably in the minority here and would say the punishment is fair. I was expecting the game to be replayed with a £4k fine. Also weighing up the extra costs for stewarding and policing for a game that has potential to attract every bigotted moron (from both sides) in the West of Scotland. I would say we have got off lightly.
That being said this is very expensive lesson for the club who have admitted that they were at fault.

Given the threat to World Peace that AR v Linfield would have been, I am not disappointed that we are out of the competition.
On the other hand, the fine seems unfair, petty, vindictive, over the top.
I would agree with appealing but in other appeals you have to put up cash to run the appeal, and be prepared to lose the appeal, and then the deposit and then pay the fine anyway.
Maybe a strong letter accepting the withdrawal but protesting the fine would be sufficient.

I must be the only one who thinks what has happened is the correct decision. Rovers didn't play someone who was suspended or that but actually someone who had not been registered as a player yet played him during the game. This is not anyone's fault other than those involved at the club. ARFC must have some sort of way to easily identify who is registered and who is not and this information should be passed on to the manager. So for that reason, due to poor handling within the club we find ourselves out of pocket and out of a cup competition. This should serve as a lesson to be learnt and ensure everyone who deals with player registration is keepin their eye on the ball.

I used to like the Challenge Cup but in the last two seasons it's become a Mickey Mouse competition with Welsh, Irish and U20 teams getting to join in. It's now a glorified friendly tournament. but you get done for £2,000 for fielding a development player.
The punishment fits the crime but considering the context the size of the fine seems very high. If the suits at the SPFL want to lay down the law like that, they could at least take the competition as seriously as they take the penalising.
But the Rovers agreed to play in the tournament and broke the rules so are in no place to argue.

Nothing to do with the manager, he would assume that all the players are properly signed up - that`s not his responsibility - most likely club secretary at fault or someone else in admin.

Should have been fined for offences against football for that match. Rotten doesn't even come close

An expensive lesson to be learnt moment - but it is just the Irn Bru cup - not the Scottish Cup - I would have been more unhappy with that , also look at the poor Polish team who were 4-1 up against Celtic and brought on a sub in the 90 plus minutes , who was banned - they lost out on a place in the Champions League - now that's a major cause for a fan to be disgruntled - lets get back on track with the league and hope Spartans do Scotland proud on the 2nd September

Exactly. I couldn't give a toss about being booted out; but the fine is absolutely wrong. I sincerely hope it is 'suspended'. Do they want to put teams out of business???!

Lesson learned hopefully and time to move on. Three big League games coming up that should give us a good indication of where we are at
